Hud Not the Only Source for Foreclosure Help

Other Sources of Foreclosure Help Becoming More Common as Foreclosure Rates Continue to Rise

In recent years, more and more homeowners looking for sources of foreclosure help have turned to the Internet to gather information on how they can stop or avoid foreclosure. According to the three major search engines, many of the surfers seeking foreclosure help are including the term HUD in their search queries. HUD, the government agency that promotes and encourages fair housing and homeownership for Americans that can afford to own a home, is probably the single most visited source for online foreclosure help. However, other sources are becoming more common as foreclosure rates continue to rise.

In some cities, large, inner city churches have begun hiring outside consultants to provide foreclosure advice to their members. These churches are very concerned as they are normally located in inner city neighborhoods that are affected the most by the increase in vacant and abandoned properties that home foreclosure can cause.

Local, community-based banks are also beginning to do their part to provide foreclosure help to their customers by providing homeownership seminars that coach consumers on managing their finances and being better homeowners. Third Federal Bank, located in Cleveland, OH, has held such seminars for years. They believe that they can help stop foreclosure rates from rising by educating homeowners before they buy. This method has proven to be effective in helping many first time homeowners avoid foreclosure altogether.

If you are a homeowner in need of foreclosure help, check your local yellow pages for churches, banks, and other organizations in your community that can provide foreclosure advice. You can also contact your councilperson or congressperson and inquire about local entities (you can also check with HUD) that provide foreclosure help.
